Abstract
I collaborated with Power Practical on the first product for their new brand, JUL. Our research showed us that a mug can become a very personal object, extending its role beyond function. Realizing that mugs are objects of warmth and comfort, we decided to forgo a digital interface in favor of tactile interactions. The bottom acts as a dial to set the desired temperature. When placed on the coaster, a rim of light glows to signal the interaction between the coaster and mug, letting the user know when their drink is ready. Jul was successfully funded on Kickstarter, raising nearly $200K and far exceeding my client's goal.
